Merry Christmas to everyone from Icaros Desktop! It has been a great year for AROS and we believe the next one will be even better. But, for now, let us give you a little gift: a patch which includes all the fixes to AROS system files and Wanderer which have been developed since the release of Icaros Desktop 1.3.3. Once again, users of supported netbooks will love this update: it enhances the driver for GMA chipsets with better stability and speed, improving compatibility with applications. But it also changes the shape for advanced options window in Wanderer, which was just too tall to fit the screen and didn't allow proper handling of user preferences. Wanderer's advanced preferences have been also fixed, and backgrounds are now handled correctly. Other fixes enhance fonts and icons handling, while ASL requesters now show also .info files.

Downloads for Icaros Desktop 1.3.3 are operational again. Nothing changed since the original release, except for the InstallAROS tool, which is now working correctly. As already explained, the new feature “AROS is now installable from twice-partitioned USB pendrives” has been postponed to the next Icaros release. Users who wish to install Icaros onto a pendrive, should use a single partition, as explained on the Icaros manual. Thank you for your patience and sorry for the issue.

Icaros Desktop 1.3.3 downloads temporarily stopped

Time for a little, sad news. Download for version 1.3.3 of Icaros Desktop has been temporarily suspended, due to a bug found in InstallAROS after the release. Some users reported issues installing Icaros Desktop on a two-partition configuration (AROS: for system and Work: for... well... work!). To fix this, we decided to reintragrate the older version of InstallAROS, which doesn't support installing from a twice-partitioned pendrive, but at least it doesn't give problems during installation. Downloads will be restored as soon as the new version has been uploaded to the main server. If you have already downloaded version 1.3.3, you don't need to download again, unless you have to install it in two partitions. A workaround for this, however, has been found here.

Icaros Desktop 1.3.3 available for download

A new, important update for Icaros Desktop is ready. This release introduces preliminary hardware 3D acceleration on Intel GPUs already covered by the Intel GMA driver. Preliminary means that there is still much work to do on this new Gallium implementation, but you can already play Quake III Arena and most AROS games on your netbook at decent speeds, which is a great news for Aspire One-and-alike owners. The new driver has also some 2D acceleration functions enabled, so you will notice improvements also on emulators and applications: for instance, MAME and LodePaint performances are now noticeably better. Icaros Desktop 1.3.3 also includes all the bug fixes already covered by the "AROS Paper Cuts" initiative, making overall user experience fairly better than before: Wanderer now behaves correctly when selecting and dragging multiple files, immediately changes the desktop wallpaper using its preferences, and many CLI commands that gave different results than the ones in AmigaOS 3.x now act correctly, helping people who make scripts for both operating systems. There are also many little-big improvements: try, for instance, dragging a file on a file-requester window: it will be automatically selected as the file to open. InstallAROS can now copy the AROS file from a twice-partitioned USB pendrive and much, much more. If you liked Icaros Desktop 1.3.2, you'll love this new release!
