Some people complained that automatic update from version 1.1.3 to 1.1.4 doesn't work, as the procedure stops somewhere when de-compressing the downloaded ISO image and mounting this one as virtual CD. I sincerely apologize for the issue, but I can't really figure out its origins: the routine is exactly the same that allowed the first two updates (from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 and from 1.1.2 to 1.1.3) without issues, so I can only imagine that the decompressing command in version 1.1.3 isn't providing the results it should. In fact, reports say that once LiveUpdater has unzipped the ISO, AROS crashes when trying to mount it. Trying to mount the resulting ISO after the reboot (you can do that, since it is still stored in Extras:LUPD temporary directory) may destroy your AROS installation. Aaarrrgh!

I will do some investigations in the next days to better understand the issue. However, I can only assure that if you manually download the update CD from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4, and you use any archive manager on Linux or Windows to extract the ISO, and then you copy it over AROS, you can use LiveUpdater's "from ISO" option to successfully update the system. In the meanwhile, I suggest to "broken installation" people to download either the Light or the Live! 1.1.4 version of Icaros Desktop and reinstall it from scratch, without formatting partitions: this will respawn your Icaros installation without touching most user settings.

Icaros Desktop has reached version 1.1.4. This quick update is needed to refresh many system files, since AROS has now got better SDL and MESA support, and various libraries has changed to enhance compatibility with other AmigaOS flavours. This means that system files must be updated to prevent compatibility issues with applications compiled with the latest builds of AROS. But this is not only a "mantainance update": it's time to introduce also a new package called Icaros Desktop Light, a shrinked version of our Live! distribution that can be burnt on a CD-R. It has been released to help people who want to install AROS on a old laptop or on old hardware without a DVD drive. It includes everything fancy the Live! distribution has, but without huge packages like the Eternal Lands game, and both adventures that came with ScummVM, Drascula and Beneath a Steel Sky. Other files have been removed, like the now-obsolete AmiGG client and many wallpaper images in Prefs/Presets, but I think someone that needs an "emergency CD" to start a laptop or to install AROS will be happy as well.

Icaros Desktop Light is already available for download and updated to version 1.1.4

Icaros Desktop Live! fans should still download version 1.1.3 and then use Icaros' LiveUpdater to download the update to 1.1.4. For people who still prefer updating from CD or ISO, the update CD is available as well. This update works on Icaros Desktop Live! or VE version 1.1.3 only: if your current installation is still 1.1.2 or even older, please bring it to 1.1.3 before updating to 1.1.4. A complete Live! edition of Icaros Destkop 1.1.4 is now available as well.

A new, important update for Icaros Desktop is ready for download. It adds to your operating system USB support, thanks to the much awaited Poseidon stack from Chris Hodges, which has successfully passed a huge (at least for AROS habits) beta testing session. USB should now work on about 80% of PC platforms out there, supporting both USB 1.1 and 2.0 controllers and devices, allowing easier file transfer on most pendrives and memory cards formatted with FAT and SFS filesystems. Poseidon is also able to detect a wide range of USB devices, including mice, keyboards, joysticks and other human controllers, audio cards, network cards, printers and scanners but - chill down - unluckily this won't mean you can actually use them. While there should be no problems at all for mice, keyboards and other similar devices, AROS still lacks of some important libraries and system components which would allow full and standardised support for other USB devices. And this is the motivation why this release is called "1.1.3" and not, for instance, "1.2": we've got a new important piece of the puzzle, a wonderful and promising feature, but this is a great starting point, not the final goal. Chris Hodges has opened a door which allow AROS to make huge leaps forward, but the walk has just begun. From now on, though, you won't be forced to use PS/2 mice and keyboards anymore: they should be recognized and mounted automatically at startup.
